Michaela Elsbeth Martin is a multifaceted, hardworking, and wholehearted leader dedicated to advancing inclusive development, transformative leadership, and equitable opportunity for Africa and her people. A visionary in her approach, she is deeply committed to cultivating a society where every individual, irrespective of background, can realise their fullest potential.

With a BA in Governance and Political Transformation, an Honours degree in International Relations, and a Master’s degree in Political Science, Michaela brings a robust academic foundation to her diverse work, enriched by her research on decolonisation and institutional corruption.

Leveraging over five years of experience in the development sector, including four years within higher education as a Teaching Assistant and Junior Lecturer, Michaela has consistently channelled her expertise towards initiatives that foster meaningful and systemic change in South Africa and across the continent. She possesses strong systems and process management skills, combined with a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ).

A proud Mandela Rhodes Scholar (2019), Michaela actively mentors emerging scholars, embodying a steadfast commitment to the Foundation’s Pan-African vision. She has also contributed, and continues to contribute, to youth empowerment through her work with the Youth Employment Service (YES).

Formerly, as Senior Manager, Michaela spearheaded the Impact Insights Department at Wild Impact, where she established the department from its inception, implementing robust frameworks for impact assessments and expertly managing diverse teams across South, Southern, and East Africa.

Beyond her professional endeavours and passions, she is an avid reader, a thoughtful writer, a skilled facilitator of leadership workshops, and a devoted advocate for mental health, driven by a profound commitment to humanity and social justice.
