Individual Donation Policy And Terms

THE NSI 

The New South Institute (NSI), legally recognized as the Government And Public Policy Think Tank PBO, is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization. NSI is a juristic entity, duly registered in the Republic of South Africa as a Public Benefit Organization (PBO 930080176), conducting operations in accordance with South African legislation.

Having been officially registered with the Companies & Intellectual Property Commission (CIPRO) on April 5, 2019, NSI operates under the Enterprise Name ‘GAPP THINKTANK’ with the Registration Number 2019 / 140561 / 08. The institution is also registered as a Non-Profit Company with a TAX Number of 9127312248.

PURPOSE 

This document serves to establish the guidelines for the reception of donations from individuals via the NSI’s donation page. The purpose is to ensure these contributions are made legally, transparently, and with integrity. Donations are voluntary and not bound by any predefined commitment to continuity. By making financial contributions to the NSI, individuals declare their agreement with these terms.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARTIES 

NSI commits to managing received resources and applying them exclusively towards the pursuit of its institutional mission and research projects. Donors agree to comply with the donations outlined in this individual donation policy and terms.

ETHICS AND ACCOUNTABILITY 

Donations made to NSI will be exclusively directed towards the functioning of the organization, its research projects, and partnerships. All collected funds will contribute to our work improving public understanding of government and public policy, and can be allocated across various fronts according to strategic plans and specific needs. NSI commits to auditing its accounts using a specialized firm, and annually disclosing an audit report, activity report, and accounting documents such as the Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, and Statement of Income. The primary goal of all NSI activities, including fundraising, is to advance the field of government and public policy and public understanding thereof. No member of NSI will personally benefit from the organization’s actions, partnerships, or financial collection.

REFUSAL OF DONATIONS

NSI reserves the right to refuse donations, even without stating a reason. In case of an impossibility to return a refused donation, NSI commits to publish all information related to this contribution on its website and allocate the funds entirely to one or more organizations with a charitable purpose. NSI does not accept donations of a political nature, however, it respects the participation of donors’ collaborators in political activities, as long as it’s personal, outside of the work environment, and in accordance with the prevailing electoral legislation.

MANAGEMENT OF DONATIONS 

NSI will maintain a channel for updating personal and financial data, providing information and resolving issues for all donors through the email info@nsi.org. NSI will not provide bank account details for transfer or deposit, or accept cash donations, at events or its headquarters, except for exceptions previously agreed upon through a donation contract and through official communication authorizing this situation.

PAYMENT METHODS

Donations made via credit card will be charged either on a one-time or recurring basis through an approved and free payment gateway. Donations made via bank slips will be charged either on a one-time or recurring basis through titles registered at the bank by NSI using a reliable sub-acquirer. If the bank slip is not paid by its due date, NSI may issue a second slip referring to the unpaid competence.

NSI will not be responsible for: (i) any act or omission performed and/or damage caused by the donor due to access or use of the payment gateway; (ii) improper use of the payment gateway by any donor or third party and/or the content uploaded, sent and/or transmitted to the payment gateway by the donors; (iii) failures, technical impossibilities or unavailability on the payment gateway; and (iv) installation on the donor’s equipment of viruses, trojans, malware, worm, bot, backdoor, spyware, rootkit, or any other similar devices.

CANCELLATIONS

The donor can cancel the recurring donation at any time through the channel described above. In case of cancellation, NSI will immediately stop charging the amounts related to the canceled donation.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY

The NSI is committed to maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of donor data. We will not share this information with third parties, except when necessary to comply with legal or regulatory requirements.
