Call for Submissions: NSI Fellowship in Public Service Reform
New South Institute | 12-Month Fellowship | Deadline: Friday, 30 May 2025
Are you a public servant engaged in developing and implementing public policy in the South African and African public sector? The New South Institute (NSI) invites you to apply for its fellowship and be part of a year-long programme to support public servants committed to strengthening effectiveness, accountability, and professional standards in the public sector.
About the fellowship
This 12-month fellowship supports public servants at the intersection of policy and implementation to advance the principles of the National Framework Towards the Professionalisation of the Public Sector as approved by Cabinet in October 2022, amongst others. The fellowship provides a platform for learning, reflection, and peer exchange with exposure to reforms championed by the Global South.
Through this fellowship, fellows will be supported to:
– Participate in relevant conferences (locally and the Global South);
– Document and share case studies on their policy implementation experiences; and
– Participate in targeted training aligned with the goals of professionalisation.
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for applicants who:
– Are currently employed in the public service (national, provincial, or local level),
– Are actively involved in policy development and implementation,
– Demonstrate a commitment to improving public sector performance, ethics, and integrity,
– Interest in sharing practical insights and experiences supporting institutional reform.
Application Requirements
To apply, please submit the following by 30 May 2025:
– A short personal statement (max 500 words) describing your current role, your interest in the fellowship, and the case study or policy topic you would like to explore;
