The New South Institute is pleased to announce that our Executive Director, Ivor Chipkin, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming conference on “The Global South and Future of World Order,” organized by the Reimagining World Order project of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS). This important event is scheduled to take place on April 19-20, 2024, at Princeton University, delving into the influential roles and challenges faced by the Global South in the evolving international order.

Dr. Chipkin will participate in the panel titled “Global South: Visions, Strategies, and Statecraft,” set for April 19 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern Time (ET). For our stakeholders in South Africa, this corresponds to 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM South African Standard Time (SAST), providing an opportunity to reflect on the discussions at a convenient local time. Unfortunately, there will be no live broadcast of the event.

Key elements of Ivor Chipkin’s involvement include:

  1. A focused discussion on the strategic and ethical considerations of foreign policy within the Global South, sharing the platform with distinguished panelists such as Shivshankar Menon, Philips Vermonte, Ayse Zarakol, and Daniel Nexon, under the chairmanship of Won-soo Kim from Kyung Hee University.
  2. The presentation of a paper by Dr. Chipkin, which will subsequently be available for download on the NSI website, offering insights into anti-imperialism and the national democratic revolution in South Africa and their implications for the Global South.

It is also noteworthy that Pratap Mehta, a member of the NSI Board, will be participating in the conference, further emphasizing the strong representation of our institute at this global forum.

This conference, now in its fourth year, continues to be a cornerstone event for the Reimagining World Order project, facilitating a critical examination of global dynamics through the lens of international relations experts from around the world.

We invite our community to stay tuned to our website and social media platforms for updates and insights from the conference, underscoring NSI’s commitment to fostering informed discussions on significant international issues.
