Exploring the Nexus of Science and Policy at the STI Forum Side Event
As highlighted previously, the New South Institute (NSI) is excited to participate in the upcoming side event at the 9th Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals, organized under the auspices of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). The virtual side event, “Strengthening Science Policy Interfaces for Sustainable Development,” scheduled for Thursday 9 May from 13:15 to 14:45 EST, is a result of collaborative efforts between renowned institutions including the University of Bristol, On Think Tanks, the African Centre for Cities and the African Centre for Equitable Development (ACED).
This discussion will delve into the critical role of scientific evidence in shaping both national and international policy frameworks, addressing global challenges such as pandemics, climate change, and socio-economic transformations. The need for robust science-policy interfaces is underscored by these pressing issues, and the panel will explore procedural improvements suggested by recent research from experts in the UK and sub-Saharan Africa.
To participate in this enriching discussion, interested individuals must register through the ACED website. Please note that there will be no public online broadcast; access to the event is restricted to those who have registered. Registration details will be provided to registered attendees closer to the event date.
The panel will be moderated by Dr Jessica Espey from the University of Bristol and will feature insights from global experts including Ambassador Csaba Korosi, Dr Salvatore Aricò and Dr Frejus Thoto, as well as Achan Ramlat. Follow this link for more details on the panel and panellists.
This side event promises not only theoretical insights but also practical examples of successful integration of science into policy frameworks. It emphasizes an inclusive approach, ensuring that diverse voices are heard, and aims to foster a deeper understanding of how evidence and expertise can be more effectively institutionalized in international policymaking.
