The New South Institute (NSI) has opened applications for its Journalist-in-Residence Programme, aimed at mid-level journalists interested in producing evidence-based reporting informed by the Institute’s research, programmes, and thematic priorities.

The residency is designed for journalists working at the intersection of research, public policy, and public communication. The selected Journalist-in-Residence will work closely with NSI researchers, fellows, and partners to translate analysis on democracy, governance, public institutions, and political economy into accessible journalism for public audiences. Outputs may include long-form features, analysis pieces, explainers, interviews, and digital-first content, developed in line with NSI’s ongoing research and public engagement work, including policy projects, field-based research, convenings, and dialogues.

Participating journalists are expected to pitch and publish independently through their own media networks and professional platforms, and to support dissemination by leveraging existing relationships to reach both policy and general audiences.
